ANIMALS OF THE DESERT
GRAY FOX
One animal that lives in the Mojave Desert is the gray fox. Its scientific name is Urocyon Cinereoargeoteus. The gray fox is a nocturnal animal that escapes its predators by climbing up trees using its sharp, hooked claws. It leaps branch by branch to descend to the ground.
BOBCAT
The bobcat's scientific name is Felis rufus. The bobcat feeds on small animals and rarely attacks humans. The bobcat was hunted in the past for their precious pelts.
MOJAVE RATTLESNAKE
The Mojave rattlesnake's scientific name is Crotalus scutulatus scutulatus. This particular snake has the most dangerous poison of all of the snakes in the Mojave desert. It doesn't attack unless cornered or threatened. It has a triangular head and diamond-shaped pattern on its back.
KIT FOX
The kit fox's scientific name is vulpes macrotis. The kit fox is mostly nocturnal, but in some cases they are diurnal. The kit fox is quite rare.
COYOTE
The coyote's scientific name is Canis latrans. Diurnal and abundant, these omnivores normally howl, but if they get excited enough they bark. they can run at a top speed of about forty miles per hour.
